Install the desktop app
The desktop app runs on macOS and Windows. Install it, open it, and it finds the agents already on your computer.
Download the installer for your platform from the latest release :
| Platform | File |
|---|---|
| macOS, Apple Silicon (M-series) | HarnessKit_ |
| macOS, Intel | HarnessKit_ |
| Windows 10 / 11, 64-bit | HarnessKit_ |
The desktop app doesn’t include the hk command. To use HarnessKit from a terminal too, install it as in Install the CLI and web UI.
Open the DMG and drag HarnessKit to the Applications folder.
Windows
Section titled “Windows”Run the installer (HarnessKit_x.x.x_x64-setup.exe). It is not code-signed yet, so Windows SmartScreen shows a warning on first run: click More info → Run anyway.
The Windows app has the same features as the macOS app, except one: only on macOS can you choose the app icon.
First launch
Section titled “First launch”The first time you open HarnessKit, it shows three welcome screens: “Welcome to HarnessKit”, “All your agents, one view” and “Trust, built in”. Click Next to go on, and Get Started on the last one. They show only once.
Then HarnessKit finds the agents installed on your computer and scans their extensions. It scans again each time its window comes back into focus, so changes you make outside HarnessKit show up.
The Overview shows every supported agent by default, installed or not. To hide the ones HarnessKit didn’t find, open Settings → Agent Paths and choose Detected only, which disables every agent that wasn’t detected. To turn off a single agent, click its Enabled button so it reads Disabled.
Theme, light or dark mode, language and, on macOS, the app icon are in Settings. See Settings.
Updates
Section titled “Updates”HarnessKit checks for a new version each time it starts. When one is out, an Update button appears in the sidebar. Update and uninstall has the steps, and how to remove HarnessKit.
